The Comic Invasion in Urbanspree on the RAW-Gelände premises is Berlins biggest Comic-Festival and attracts exhibitors from all around Germany as well as some from neighboring countries every year.
The Convention is somewhat of a producers fair with a wide-ranging programme, offering autograph signings, readings, Drawing-Battles as well as it’s own Comic-Contest and is usually taking place between April to May, in cooperation with Zitty and Tip, among others. The entry is always free, so it’s perfect for a spontanous trip.
Parallel to the Main Festival, the third time in a row the Comic Invasion is accompanied by many different Satellite-Exhibitions, most of them are located in the Neurotitan Gallerie at Hackescher Markt, with the Berlin Festival of Animated Film also being part of the program.
To add some nerd-credibility, Live-Concerts from unusual Bands like the Miniature Orchestre, the Fattouch Band or We’re Only Made Of Snow are on the menu. But who’s expecting Cosplayers or huge props like at Comic-Con will be disappointed – people are looking suspiciously normal here and the small budget is very evident. Comic Invasion is more like an intricate meet and greet for the Berlin comic-scene, where creators and fans can exchange face-to-face.

Bert Henning, Co-Founder of the Kreuzberg Comicshop Grober Unfug, Comic-Artist and Guitarrist of the Band Kunstkraut (kunstkraut-spielt-krautkunst.blogspot.com) has had his Booth at Comic Invasion every year since it’s beginning:
„For me, Comic Invasion is absolutely unique. No matter where you look, everybody is smiling and the atmosphere is totally creative. It’s totally different from events like the Leipziger Buchmesse, where Comics are also represented. Don’t get me wrong – they’re doing a great job there, but it’s more sterile. Here I feel way more comfortable, because I can just tape a quick drawing to the wall if I feel like it. And as a cherry on top, we are selling way more issues here.“
The familial and welcoming atmosphere is also thanks to the Team behind the Festival.

„So far, things are going great. Although the weather is notably worse than usual, as always, we managed to increase the number of visitors compared to the year before. We’re especially happy about the fact that not only people interested in comics attended Comic Invasion this year, but also many families, for whom we’ve got many to offer in our festival programme. Adding to that are many prominent guests like Jan Pfeiffer or Ulli Lust, who decided to come here.“
